DR. EDWIN WITT POWELL
DR. EDWIN WITT POWELL was born in Chase City, Virginia. He received a B.A. in Psychology from Rutgers University; M.A. in Gerontology from Notre Dame; M.Ed. in Psychology from Howard University; M.A. in Counseling from Liberty University and a Doctorate of Arts in Educational Psychology from George Mason University. Dr. Powell was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters (honoris causa) for his work in human rights and education. He has research interests and publications in education, disability advocacy, mental health, and law. He is a former government analyst, special education teacher, juvenile probation officer, and high school principal. He is currently an Educational Psychologist and faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health and the Department of Community and Family Medicine at the Howard University College of Medicine. Dr. Powell is also appointed as a forensic examiner with the District of Columbia Superior Court and serves on numerous boards and commissions. He is married to the former Elizabeth V. Hobson and they have four children: Latoya, Ty, Quinn, and Reid.
